Class dates and times
Eight week Beginners Cycles are held quarterly. In 2010, Beginners Cycles start on Jan 4th, April 5th, July 5th, Oct 4th.
Beginners-only classes are Mondays and Thursdays, 7:30-9:00 p.m., with an optional class on Saturday (mixed with all levels), 10:00 a.m. to noon. We ask that you come to at least two classes per week, and you are welcome to attend all three.
For the last 2 weeks of the cycle you will be incorporated into the all level classes so you can attend any of the following:
Monday 12 noon-1:30, Tuesday 7:30-9pm, Wed 6:30-8:30, Thursday 6-7:30, Friday 3:30-5, Sat 10-12.
Not sure our program is a good fit for you? Come to Try a Class Night.
Check the Schedule page for the upcoming Try A Class Dates
This is a special class, usually held the week before each Beginners Cycle starts, to which all women are welcome. (We ask for a $10 donation.) It's a great chance to meet some of the Seven Star students and teachers, and get a taste of our curriculum and teaching style. Watch our home page for the date of the next class, which is usually posted a few weeks before the start of the Beginners Cycle.
You are also welcome to come by and watch a class. Call or e-mail to find out a good time to come watch.
What to wear
Wear long pants that cover your knees, and a T-shirt or tank top (no midriffs or spaghetti-strap tops). Your clothes should be loose-fitting so that you can move freely. You'll need to remove all jewelry before training. Street shoes may not be worn on the training floor, but if you're starting in the winter time you may want to bring a pair of socks to wear until we start moving around and getting warmed up.
No uniforms are required. We have school T-shirts for sale in a variety of styles for those who would like them. People who continue training after the Beginners Cycle often get black kung fu pants and a school T-shirt (this is our "uniform" for demos and other formal occasions), and sometimes a Chinese sam top, but sweats and other casual wear are still fine for regular classes.
Children and teens
The minimum age for students at Seven Star is 13. Students under 18 need to have a parent or guardian sign their release of claims form (see below).
If you are looking for martial arts classes for young children, we recommend that you check out our sister school, Seattle Kajukenbo, which has a great kids' program.
Free childcare is available while you are in class. Please contact us ahead of time to arrange childcare.
Registration and payment
The cost for the eight-week Beginners Cycle is $150.00. You may enclose a check for the full amount (made out to Seven Star Women's Kung Fu) with your registration, or send us a $25 deposit and pay the rest when you come to class.
Partial scholarships are available for qualifying low-income students. (If you would like to apply for a scholarship, ask for a scholarship form when you register or on your first night of class.)
To register, please print and fill out these two forms:
