OUR PERFORMERS:

These performers have graciously donated their time and talents to appear in our benefit performance. Esther Howard will be our MC and Amy Roberts will be our auctioneer.

Award-winning songwriter Amy Roberts performs original folk with pop sensibilities and is renowned for her "effortless performances, vivid songs and powerful talent." Her CD, No Miracles Today, has been selected by Performing Songwriter magazine as one of their Top 12 DIY (do it yourself) Picks. She writes "It is an amazing thing to be reviewed in such a respected national publication .... go to their website and listen to an MP3 of my song, Ready to Burn."

Salsa dancer company Somos El Son was created in Seattle nine years ago by the Chavez brothers, known in the salsa world for their incredibly fast and technical shines as well as innovative choreographies. Co-Directors Israel and Victor Chavez were born and raised in Mexico City and have been dancing salsa since early childhood. Their dancing developed in the streets of Mexico, and the Chavez style is known for its raw essence. The current members of Somos El Son have been dancing together for the past three years and have traveled and perform all over the U.S. and Canada. They will be dancing to Palante by Tito Puente.

Ayca (Jennifer Sokolowsky) has been belly dancing for 10 years, studying with a variety of teachers and performing for audiences in the U.S. and Europe. She relocated to Seattle last year after several years of living in Prague and Berlin. Ayca loves the multicultural aspect of American belly dance and takes her inspiration from Turkish, Egyptian Cabaret and Tribal styles, as well as the club scene, always letting her hips be her guide!

Original Arty-Pop-Singer-Songwriter Greg Dember will be performing his music with Thorn Michaels. There will be a release party for his new CD "I Don't Know I Think I Fell from the Sky" at 10:00 p.m. on September 17 at the Rendezvous, 2322 2nd Avenue, Seattle.

Nationally recognized dancer/choreographer and 4th degree kung fu black belt Michele Miller, currently on the faculty of Cornish College of the Arts, is a founding member of Velocity Dance Studio and D-9 dance company. She and some of her students will perform "Di Lok Lo" and a Chinese dragon sword form she learned while studying martial arts and teaching dance in Hong Kong.

Tai chi master Derryl Willis is a disciple of Grand Master Chen Xiaowang, the 19th generation lineage holder of Chen family style Taijiquan. Master Willis will perform a traditional Chen style tai chi form "characterized by a combination of fast and slow movements, explosive bursts of energy and spiraling movement."
